Dear Sunny Creek Farm Customers, The FDA has linked alfalfa seed from a specific lot beginning with the number “032”, distributed by Caudill Seed Company, with the recent Salmonella St. Paul outbreak. We would like to inform you that we do not have any of this alfalfa seed in our facility. Furthermore, Caudill Seed has voluntarily withdrawn all this seed from the market. The FDA states that they have no evidence that alfalfa seeds from other lots, or sprouts grown from them are affected by this market withdrawal. Since January of 2009 we have purchased all our alfalfa seed from International Specialty Supply in Cookeville, Tennessee. Each seed lot is tested and is accompanied by a certificate of analysis. Sunny Creek Farm’s facility is a modern, state of the art plant with a well-trained staff and comprehensive food safety program. We are proactive in our approach to prevent contamination using the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) program to minimize any hazards or risks associated with sprout production. Sunny Creek Farm scrupulously follows the FDA guideline for hold and release testing and sanitation of seed. We test effluent water from each batch of sprouts for E. Coli and salmonella and have our test results prior to shipping. We also have an environmental hygiene program which includes swab testing of all surfaces for salmonella, E. Coli and listeria. Sunny Creek Farm has never had a recall or been indicated in any food borne illness occurrence. We thank you for your business and look forward to continuing to supply the people of our area of the country with the high quality foods that will benefit their health. Sincerely, Lee Ewing
